CareXpress Urgent Care: Tips to lose weight in 2018

Stick to your new year’s resolutions with CareXpress Urgent Care

The new year means a fresh start. A change. A big change many make this time of year is that decision to lose weight. Many of us start off strong: we get a gym membership, we start eating better or we start following the latest fad diet. Then, a few months later something happens. We have to stay late at work and so we can’t make it to the gym. We forget to bring lunch get some fast food. And then we skip another gym date, get fast food one more time and on it goes until we fall back into old habits. It’s a frustrating cycle but it’s vital to your long term health to break it. And CareXpress Urgent care has some tips to help you do that in 2018!

Skip the Fad: We’ve all picked up a magazine and read about the greatest new fad diet that’ll drop 20 pounds in 2 weeks. It’s certainly possible to drop that much weight in 2 weeks and to do it with few health risks. The problem is many of these diets aren’t sustainable. When you stop them, often times the weight creeps back on as fast as it fell off. The most effective way to lose weight and keep it off is to consume fewer calories and exercise more.

Set Milestones: Setting a main goal is important to weight loss. But that main goal can seem daunting, especially if it’s something like lose 100 pounds. To make it more manageable, set smaller “milestone” goals that lead up to your main goal. Your main goal could be to lose 100 pounds but a milestone goal would be to take a 15-20 minute walk around the block 3 times a week. Something that can be easily accomplished after work or during classes.  When you accomplish one milestone, set another one that’s slightly harder and keep at it! Instead of a 15 minute walk make it a 30 minute walk or a 15 minute jog!

These are only a couple of tips, come back next week for more! And if you need an Urgent care, visit one of CareXpress Urgent care’s many locations!

CareXpress Urgent Care Shares Easy Stress Relief Stretches For Anyone

CareXpress Urgent Care Tips: 3 Simple Stretches

Some people experience stress on their lower back after they have been sitting down at a desk all day long (whether it be for work or for school). This problem can also lead to other body parts feeling very stiff. It’s important for those that have a stationary work life or sit in classrooms all day to get a little relief. When you are in need of quick relief and you’re not in a place where a full exercise routine is an option, completing some easy stress relief stretches is an easy way to get some of that stiffness to dissipate. Today, our urgent care blog is centered around 3 simple stretches that anyone can do.

Here are 3 stretches to help you get through your day and they may also relieve some stress:

1.) Corner Wall Back Stretch: Stand facing the corner of a room with your palms facing the wall and elbows slightly below shoulder height. Place each hand and forearm on each side of the corner and push yourself towards it as if to complete a push-up. Hold this stretch for at least 20-30 seconds.

2.) Standing Quadriceps Stretch: Stand on one foot and bend the other behind you, grabbing your foot and pulling it in towards your buttocks. Hold this for at least 20-30 seconds and switch to other leg.

3.) Standing Arm And Neck Stretch: Place one arm down at your side. Slightly stretch the arm out and drop your head to the opposite shoulder. Hold this stretch for 20-30 seconds and release. Repeat the process 3 times on each side.

CareXpress Urgent Care Shares Immune System Preparation For Back-To-School

Urgent Care Shares Immune System Boosting Tips

Your immune system is responsible for battling bacterial and viral infections. That being said, if it’s overly strained it can’t operate properly. For most students around this area, school will back in session very soon. During these times of high anxiety and moments of rushing around to get everything in order, keeping your immune system in check is even more vital. That’s precisely why our urgent care team has developed this list of back to school immune system boosting tips.

1.) Vaccinations: Getting your vaccinations to fight against the flu and other illnesses would be your first step in maintaining a healthy body.
2.) Exercise: Cardiovascular exercise is one of the best ways to flush out bacteria, increase white blood cell circulation, and reduce the stress-related hormones.
3.) Lemon: Due to its high vitamin C and antioxidant content lemon can help you get over illnesses quicker. Squeezing a little lemon juice in your water or tea can help your body find balance.
4.) Hygiene: Remember to wash your hands after every visit to the restroom, as well as before and after every meal. Using antibacterial soap will limit your exposure to any harmful pathogens.
5.) Sleep: Create a healthy sleep pattern for yourself. Try to to stick to the same bedtime and wake-up times as much as possible, because lack of sleep can open the flood gate for all kinds of infections and weaken the immune system.

Even the healthiest people can feel the strain of starting a new school semester, but if you follow these guidelines you’ll be one step closer to a stronger immune system. In addition to these 5 immune system boosting tips, our urgent care staff would recommend avoiding alcohol, cigarettes, sugary foods, and stressful situations. All of these factors can cause inflammation in the body and prevent you from healing if you do become ill.

If you find yourself feeling sick and none of the preventative measures provided have helped, don’t hesitate to visit CareXpress Urgent Care. Our hours and locations can be found by clicking here.

CareXpress Urgent Care Provides Warning Signs Of Dehydration

CareXpress Urgent Care Encourages Drinking Plenty Of Water

Warm, summertime weather tends to make people want to play and exercise outdoors more often. You’ve probably heard it said numerous times that drinking water is highly important to your overall health and this is especially true is warmer temperatures. Exerting high levels of activity on really hot days brings along the potential danger of dehydration and it’s possible to get so caught up in your fun activity that you forget to drink enough water. For this reason, CareXpress Urgent Care is focusing on explaining how to notice the warning signs of dehydration.

If you start to feel any of the following symptoms you may have mild to moderate dehydration:

  • Thirsty
  • Dry mouth
  • Fatigue
  • Decreased urine
  • Dry skin
  • Headache
  • Constipation
  • Dizziness

If you start to feel any of the following symptoms you may have severe dehydration which requires medical attention:

  • Extremely thirsty
  • Irritability
  • Confusion or delirium
  • Very fatigued
  • Little to no urine (Or darker than normal urine)
  • Sunken eyes
  • Shriveled, dry skin
  • Low blood pressure
  • Rapid heartbeat
  • Rapid breathing
  • Fever
  • Diarrhea
  • Vomiting
  • Excessive sweating

To prevent dehydration from occurring, our urgent care doctors would recommend drinking water every 20-30 minutes while participating in any outdoor activities. If you ever feel the symptoms of dehydration, as mentioned above, begin trying to rehydrate and cool off, immediately. Drinking more than the “standard” amount of water may be acceptable in order to maintain hydration.

Mild to moderate dehydration doesn’t require a trip to the urgent care if you can get it under control. It’s worth mentioning again that if you’ve surpassed the moderate levels into the dangerous severe dehydration zone that you should treat this as a dangerous situation and seek medical attention at your nearest hospital.

On behalf of CareXpress Urgent Care, we just want to thank you for taking the time to invest in your health this summer. Have fun, drink plenty of fluids, and stay safe!
