CareXpress Urgent Care Preparing You For Work
Some people today hear the word “tuberculosis” and feel as though this is an old disease of days gone by, but the truth is that people can have it and not even know it! So, when you apply for certain jobs and one of the requirements is a TB test, or tuberculosis screening, it shouldn’t be surprising. Luckily, CareXpress Urgent Care has you covered as we offer this simple test at our clinics.
The types of working environments where a TB test would possibly be required of you include, but are not limited to:
- Health care settings (Nursing homes, hospitals, etc.)
- Chemical dependency settings (Alcohol and drug rehabs, residential treatment facilities, etc)
- Child care settings (child placing agencies, daycare centers, after school programs, etc.)
- Volunteer program settings (Working with teens, pregnant women, or in youth shelters, etc.)
It is important to note that tuberculosis can be easily passed from one person to another via the air when the infected person coughs, sneezes, spits, laughs, or talks. In most cases tuberculosis affects the lungs, but it is possible for it to affect other parts of the body. Without treatment, it can spread to parts of the body through the bloodstream. The good news is that most people with active tuberculosis can receive treatment. Most people who have received appropriate treatment for at least 2 weeks are no longer contagious.
As you can see from the list of jobs that may require TB testing, most of the people in those places are considered vulnerable or have compromised immune systems already. This is why TB testing is still around and why our urgent care clinics still offer it.
