CareXpress Urgent Care Encourages Drinking Plenty Of Water
Warm, summertime weather tends to make people want to play and exercise outdoors more often. You’ve probably heard it said numerous times that drinking water is highly important to your overall health and this is especially true is warmer temperatures. Exerting high levels of activity on really hot days brings along the potential danger of dehydration and it’s possible to get so caught up in your fun activity that you forget to drink enough water. For this reason, CareXpress Urgent Care is focusing on explaining how to notice the warning signs of dehydration.
If you start to feel any of the following symptoms you may have mild to moderate dehydration:
- Dry mouth
- Decreased urine
- Dry skin
If you start to feel any of the following symptoms you may have severe dehydration which requires medical attention:
- Extremely thirsty
- Confusion or delirium
- Very fatigued
- Little to no urine (Or darker than normal urine)
- Sunken eyes
- Shriveled, dry skin
- Low blood pressure
- Rapid heartbeat
- Rapid breathing
- Excessive sweating
To prevent dehydration from occurring, our urgent care doctors would recommend drinking water every 20-30 minutes while participating in any outdoor activities. If you ever feel the symptoms of dehydration, as mentioned above, begin trying to rehydrate and cool off, immediately. Drinking more than the “standard” amount of water may be acceptable in order to maintain hydration.
Mild to moderate dehydration doesn’t require a trip to the urgent care if you can get it under control. It’s worth mentioning again that if you’ve surpassed the moderate levels into the dangerous severe dehydration zone that you should treat this as a dangerous situation and seek medical attention at your nearest hospital.
On behalf of CareXpress Urgent Care, we just want to thank you for taking the time to invest in your health this summer. Have fun, drink plenty of fluids, and stay safe!
